Description: This position is one of the first employees to contact and interact with Shemin walk-in customers. They are responsible for carrying out excellent customer service (from beginning to end) while enchancing sales. They are responsible to use their product knowledge and Shemin systems knowledge to satisfy whatever sales/service need the customer has including: up selling, cross selling, add on selling; also to include customer check-in, loading and customer check out.

Essential Duties:
•Customer service (may include customer check-in, invoicing, phone inquiries and other system related activities) including filing orders for customers.
•Yard/warehouse sales: Use product knowledge to close sales with customers. Make recommendations and give advice to customers.
•Run the service counter as needed. Responsible for merchandising in yard and warehouse.
•Load and unload materials.
•Product maintenance and receiving. Promote Shemin’s marketing efforts.
•Act as a team leader and support new hires with sales/service training as needed.
•Support all other sales and operational activities.
•Conduct product and yard maintenance.
•Provide fundamental product information to customers including pricing and availability.
•Locate appropriate technical assistance when necessary.
•Verify materials against receiving documents, report discrepancies and obvious damage.

Skills & Qualifications:
•3-5 years horticultural knowledge and customer service experience; knowledge of plant material
•Bilingual abilities (English/Spanish) a plus; Solid oral and written communication skills
•Excellent organizational ability, a high degree of initiative, interpersonal skills and a team orientation. Selling skills with high customer orientation; High School diploma or GED
•Knowledge of fertilizer and control products, pavers and lighting
•Ability to work overtime as the season requires; Ability to perform heavy manual tasks under varying weather conditions; Ability to work in adverse weather conditions; both heat and cold
•Must be physically able to lift up to 75 pounds without assistance (occasionally, regularly, routinely, throughout the course of the work day)
•Must demonstrate a thorough understanding of the body mechanics associated with safe lifting techniques and knowledge of principles of strain & sprain prevention
•Perform functions of position standing approximately 95% of day
•Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications; ability to use scanners effectively
•Materials handling equipment experience, preferably forklift
•Work experience in the retail / wholesale environment is a strong plus
